Verne Gagne was one of professional wrestling’s earliest television stars and is widely regarded as one of the greatest wrestling talents ever to emerge from the American Midwest. A dominant champion, he captured a version of the World Heavyweight Championship ten times, including a remarkable reign that lasted seven years.
Verne Gagne engaged in many memorable feuds, including rivalries with The Crusher, Nick Bockwinkel, and Mad Dog Vachon. His rivalry with Vachon was especially notable for its intensity and culminated with Gagne and Vachon eventually teaming up and winning tag team gold.
Beyond his in-ring accomplishments, Gagne achieved tremendous success as the owner and promoter of one of the Midwest’s premier territories. He also left an incredible legacy as a trainer, helping to develop future stars like Baron von Raschke, Jim Brunzell, Curt Hennig and Sgt Slaughter.
